VERSION 1.0 · OCTOBER 2026

HCAIG-1

Human-Centric AI Governance for Intelligent Spaces

For environments where AI-enabled technologies observe, analyse, assist, influence or automate human activity within physical spaces.

Version 1.0 scope: AV systems and intelligent buildings.

Why HCAIG-1

ISO/IEC 42001 and the EU AI Act define what organisations must govern. HCAIG-1 translates those expectations into practical controls for the rooms, cameras, microphones, sensors and building systems where AI meets people.

Who it is for

  • Manufacturers: building governance into AI-enabled products
  • Integrators: answering AI governance questions in bids and handovers
  • End-user organisations: assessing suppliers and governing their spaces

The six clauses

01 Environment Mapping

Know every AI-enabled system in a space, and everyone it affects, including visitors and bystanders.

02 Behaviour Assessment

Document what each system infers about people, not just what it records.

03 Human-in-the-Middle Controls

A named person on site who can understand, override and stop the system.

04 Risk & Impact Alignment

Assess impacts on individuals and groups before deployment and whenever things change.

05 Continuous Governance & Assurance

An accountable owner, a decision record, and re-assessment when the space or the system changes.

06 Regulatory Compliance & Conformity

Alignment with the EU AI Act and ISO/IEC 42001, and readiness to show evidence.

The series

HCAIG-1 explained one space and one governance gap at a time: what it looks like in practice, what the EU AI Act says, and how the framework approaches it.
